Mike Heiligenstein Gives His Opinions On Helping The Situation Of Traffic At The Growth Summit

The Williamson County Growth Summit has always been a place where the issues that the city of Austin has been facing are addressed. The last Summit that recently took place as well spoke about the major issues that the city is faced with and tried to find solutions which were implementable to help the city.

This year, in particular, the summit focused on one of the growing issues that the people of Austin are facing – the problem of traffic. Every day, new people are moving to the city in search of employment and because of the better infrastructure that the city has, compared to some other parts of the state of Texas.

However, the city was not built to cope with this exorbitant amount of population, and now there is an evident strain on the infrastructure. Especially when it comes to the roads, they aren’t big enough to fit all the people in the city and their vehicles, causing a significant amount of traffic related problems.

The panel discussion included some well-known faces and some people who have been part of the same panel debates in the past. The panel had people from different aspects of the transport industry all giving a unique insight into their thoughts on the matter.

The panel members included Uber Technologies Texas External Affairs Director, Leandre Johns, AgroDesign’s Jared Ficklin, and Mike Heiligenstein, Executive Director of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.

Leandre mainly spoke about how Uber and other ridesharing companies and transportation solutions can help ease the strain on the roads, and make them more open, avoiding traffic. Jared Ficklin mainly spoke about the design aspect of the streets in the city and talked about the idea of creating advanced roads that can cope with the growing population.

Mike Heiligenstein was one member whose opinions seemed to have the most impact on the people at the panel discussion. He was of the view that the roads within the city would have to be reconstructed, to conduct an upgrade of the overall infrastructure of the city.

He also mentioned that the roads would have to be wider, and must contain more lanes, to keep up with the growing number of vehicles in Austin and to help the city reduce its problems of traffic.
