Robert Kraft From Being A Fan To Owning A Football Team

Robert Kraft is the President and Founder of the Kraft Group, an extensive investment group with interests in paper and packaging, leisure and recreation, property investment, and a venture capital sector. His most well-known properties include the New England Patriots of the National Football League and the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, including the sports complex where they play Gillette Arena.

A resident of Brookline, Massachusetts, went to a public school before receiving a merit scholarship to Columbia University. He won a sponsorship to join Harvard Business School after graduating in 1963, where he acquired a post-graduate degree in business administration. In addition, Robert Kraft is a steward of Boston College and a custodian alumnus of his former school, Columbia University. He works on the advisory boards of Viacom and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Acquisition of the Patriots

Robert Kraft was a die-hard supporter of the Patriots when the club was still in the American Football League. Robert Kraft purchased an alternative on the site close to the sports complex in 1985. The choice would be the first in a list of actions that would lead to his ultimate possession of the team over a specified number of years. In 1988, Robert Kraft outcompeted many contenders to buy the arena from Billy Sullivan in bankruptcy proceedings for $25 million. The Patriots’ lease on the arena was included in the acquisition, giving Kraft leeway when it came time to buy the franchise.
